8 – U5.2.1 Explain the reasons (political, economic, and social) why Southern states seceded and explain the differences in the timing of secession in the Upper and Lower South. (C3, E1.2) (National Geography Standard 6, p. 154)

Students will be divided into groups of 5 or 6 and will present and create a poster on glogster showing the political, social, or economic reasons for the South seceding from the North; given a rubric they must score threes or above.

TECH: Create a debate explaining why the North won and the South lost. Use Video, pictures, Smartboard, etc. NETS 6B
Students will debate (in front of the class) the reasons for the Civil War from a Northern or Southern standpoint (given by teacher); they will use information that they find from research (in textbooks and online); they must defend their side with at least 3 historical facts.

Make a iMovie dramatizing one of President Lincoln's Speeches (list will be Provided). The student will use pictures and words from the Speech to make a movie. They then will write a summary of the speech in their own words. They must score a 4 or above on the rubric.
